Deaf Children with
Special Needs
It is highly uncommon for a deaf student to be "only" deaf. Children come in complicated packages, including many strengths and weaknesses.
The Gallaudet Learning Disabilities Handbook
In the field of deaf education, we've learned about the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students. However, a gap still remains between research and practice in educating deaf and hard of hearing students who also have learning disabilities. Therefore, an introduction to issues and policies related to teaching learning disabled deaf students specifically at the post-secondary level (as they are addressed at Gallaudet University) is being made available online to help bridge this gap. The authors hope it will serve teachers, researchers, and parents looking for answers in their efforts to better support learners who are both deaf and learning disabled.
